Reggae World Mourns The Death of Arif Cooper

The reggae industry is yet mourning another tragic situation as we lost another stalwart in Jamaica.  Popular Fame FM disc jockey and record producer, Arif Cooper, passed away after collapsing while playing at a party in St Andrew on March 5, 2023.

Cooper was the son of Michael “Ibo” Cooper, co-founder of the iconic Jamaican reggae group, Third World. He was married to media personality, Simone Clarke and the two have a daughter. Many have expressed shock on social media surrounding his passing and considered him as one of the greatest amongst his peers.

The DJ was introduced to music in the early 90’s where he started his craft at house parties. As a radio personality, Cooper has severed over two decades at FAME FM as a broadcaster and DJ. He is credited for work with popular Jamaican artistes, including Sean Paul, Vybz Kartel, Ginjah, Wayne Marshall, and others.

He was well known for his contributions to the music industry in Jamaica and was respected by many for his talents as a DJ and his dedication to promoting Jamaican music. His passing was a loss to many in the music community and he will be missed. It’s clear from the outpouring of shock and grief on social media that he was a beloved figure in the reggae music industry and will be remembered for his contributions.  It’s also impressive to hear about his long career as a DJ and radio broadcaster, as well as his work as a music producer with popular Jamaican artists. His legacy in Jamaican music will undoubtedly live on. We send our condolences to his family and friends.
