BOUNTY KILLER FILES LAWSUIT OVER UNPAID ROYALTIES

BOUNTY KILLER FILES LAWSUIT

August 12, 2022

Over the years we’ve seen unfair practices from record executives and label reps in regards to musicians getting their fair share of royalties. This has been the issue for most Jamaican artists. Rodney Pryce aka the “poor people’s governor” have been cross, angry and miserable just about his entire career. The 5 star general is known as one to defend morals and justice by any means necessary. The dancehall icon has filed legal proceedings in the High Court Justice in London against Othman Mukhlis of Great Britain for unpaid royalties dating back 20 years. Mukhlis is the owner of “Jamdown Music Limited” record label that collected royalties on behalf of the dancehall general. Court documents showed that since 2002, monies were owed to the “grung gad” and he is yet to be compensated. The lawsuit was filed in June of 2022 with claims that Mukhlis collected more than £325,000 of royalties which equates to about $60 million Jamaican dollars.

. . . claims that Mukhlis collected more than £325,000 of royalties

The discrepancy was discovered by Bounty’s former manager Julian Jones-Griffith. The seriousness of the situation led him to hire lawyers in the United States and United Kingdom to investigate the matter. Their findings revealed the large amount owing in royalties since 2002. Allegations in the court documents showed that Mukhlis made false representation in their agreement. Due to the nature of the matter, the “look into my eyes” singer is requesting that this agreement be revoked in the courts.

As the case continues to unfold, Pryce is requesting that an order be enforced from the High Court of Justice to have Mukhlis and Jamdown Music Limited give a full account of all royalties collected and compensate him for such. He is also seeking for reimbursement of legal costs and interest to be paid over the 20 years of the royalties. As the saga continues, we hope that more artists will get proper compensation from all royalties due to them.
