The dance-house-Afrobeat remix Jamaican (Bam Bam), produced by European DJs and producers HUGEL and SOLTO, has now earned Gold certification in France, Greece and the UK, demonstrating the enduring appeal of the original Jamaican classic.
Originally released in 1982, Bam Bam became one of the most sampled and recognizable songs in reggae and dancehall history. Over the years, it has been referenced, sampled, and reinterpreted by artists across hip-hop, pop, electronic, and dance music, introducing Sister Nancy’s voice to successive generations of listeners.
The success of Jamaican (Bam Bam) is particularly significant because it brings a foundational Jamaican recording into contemporary dance and Afro-house spaces, where audiences may not have been familiar with the song’s origins. The certifications in France and Greece indicate strong streaming and sales performance in European markets, further extending the legacy of the original recording. The international anthem was also certified Gold by the RIAA in the UK.

For Jamaican music, it is another example of how classic reggae and dancehall recordings continue to influence global sounds decades after their creation. And for Sister Nancy, whose Bam Bam has become a cultural phenomenon; the achievement reinforces her status as one of Jamaica’s most influential female artists.
More than 40 years after its release, Bam Bam continues to prove that great music knows no borders, generations, or genres.
