Spice, the reigning Queen of Dancehall continues to rise after being the first Jamaican to be honored by the New York City Council’s Black, Latino and Asian Caucus and the Power and Music Committee on Wednesday, June 15, 2022.
Awarded “International Music Ambassador” for her outstanding achievements in music, she was among other notable honorees such as Al Sharpton, Legendary Singer Patti LaBelle, Hip Hop Pioneers Doug E Fresh, Fat Joe, Busta Rhymes, Ja Rule, Roxanne Shante, Waah Dean (founder of Ruff Riders Entertainment), world-renowned video directors Benny Boom, Ralph McDaniels, and former MCA Records executive, Don Pooh.
Born Grace Hamilton, the chart topping dancehall diva and entrepreneur took to Instagram to share the accolade with her more than four million followers. Her debut project “10” was nominated for the best “Reggae Album” category at the Grammys earlier this year.
The elated Spice quickly shared the following statement with the world. “Let it be known that today, June 15, 2022 The New York City council’s Black Latino and Asian Caucus honored me with the International Music Ambassador Award for my outstanding achievements in Music. “Thank you Power music Awards I’m humbled; from homeless to Greatness.”
The “Guh dung deh” singer subsequently shared group photos of herself, and fellow honorees. Excited and proud of her accomplishment, she tagged some of them to extend her gratitude for their support, and talent; she also labeled Roxanne Shanté as the “Queen of Rap”.
