Four veteran artists—Moses ‘Beenie Man’ Davis, Rodney ‘Bounty Killer’ Price, Glendon Orville ‘Admiral Bailey’ Bailey, and Nadine Sutherland—will be inducted into the Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer. This honor recognizes their invaluable contributions to Jamaican music, particularly highlighting Bounty Killer and Beenie Man for their impact on the dancehall genre. The recognition was prominently featured during the Independence Grand Gala held on August 6th at the National Stadium in Kingston, where both artists received accolades for their decades of influence and success in the industry.
He also noted the evolution of his relationship with Beenie Man, "from rivals to iconic idols" in the industry.
Bounty Killer, known for his “cross angry & miserable” moniker, has been particularly celebrated for his role in mentoring numerous artists within the music scene. During the ceremony, Prime Minister Andrew Holness and other notable figures praised their work, and Bounty Killer expressed his gratitude via social media, thanking fans and supporters worldwide. He also noted the evolution of his relationship with Beenie Man, from rivals to iconic idols in the industry. The legendary Pat Chin of VP Records and Third World Band were also honored at the event, receiving the “Reggae Icon Tribute Award” for their contributions to reggae music.
This induction into the Order of Distinction, one of Jamaica’s highest national honors, will officially take place later this year on Heroes’ Day, celebrating their outstanding service to Jamaica and its cultural heritage. The ceremony featured performances by the honorees, reaffirming their status at the pinnacle of dancehall music and marking a significant milestone in their illustrious careers. Congratulations are in order for these legendary artists.
